Freier PDF-Reader macht Fortschritte (29.10.2001 - 02:10 Uhr)

(tr)

MidiSquare: Synth controller as an accessory (27.10.2001 - 07:10 Uhr)

MidiSquare is a mouse-oriented synth controller for the Atari ST by David Snow. A connected MIDI synthesiser is played by moving the mouse arrow over a grid on the screen. Each grid symbolises a chord of 4 notes. The result can be exported as a MIDI file. If you don't know what we're talking about any more than we do, take a look at the screenshot at the link below...
Tim Conrady now published an extended version of MidiSquare by Edgar Aichinger, which can also be installed as ACC. MidiSquare was tested on the ST and the Falcon. (tr)

New version of cc65 (27.10.2001 - 07:10 Uhr)

cc65 is a development environment (C crosscompiler/crossassembler) for 6502 systems like the Commodore 64. The C and runtime libraries are easily portable and can therefore be easily adapted under 6502 machines, which is why a version for the Atari XL/XE also seems possible (the original version is from the Atari, by the way). More information is available on the developers' website. (tr)

New public release of EmuTOS (27.10.2001 - 07:10 Uhr)

EmuTOS is a singletasking operating system for Atari ST emulations, which in later versions will serve as a replacement for the well-known (and still illegal) TOS images (we reported). Currently it works with the emulator STonX under Unix/Linux, but soon other emulations are to find support. The developer Martin Döring has now published the first public version 011023 (version numbers are also getting crazier and crazier). EmuTOS now also runs in colour resolutions, MiNT is also already partially usable. However, all functions are still in an early test phase, input and output functions of drives are not yet implemented. Still, a first look can be quite interesting.

Patrick Eickhoff joining the Atari Park (27.10.2001 - 03:10 Uhr)

Patrick Eickhoff has confirmed his participation at the Atari Park taking place on 17 and 18 November in Cologne's Media Park. He will be presenting news about his video production application "FunMedia" (by the way, the current version is from 16 October) and his game "Legends Of Espen". Patrick already caused quite a stir with FunMedia at last year's "World Of Alternatives", also in the Amiga community, since video editing is traditionally very important here. So we can be curious if he can convince some visitors of the qualities of the Atari again. (tr)

Cleveland Free-Net Atari SIG Archive (25.10.2001 - 09:10 Uhr)

The Cleveland Free-Net operated for years as the mailbox of an American Atari group. It contained information on all Atari systems, including XL/XE, ST/STE/TT/Falcon and Jaguar. Although the box was closed in September 1999, its data is now accessible on the Internet. And this is not exactly tiny: over 200 MBytes of data, some of which cannot be found anywhere else, await the surfer, including test reports, hardware information and online magazines. So it's worth a visit... (tr)

Recently the algorithmic MIDI composition programme "Fractal Music ST" has been released as freeware by its author on Tim Conrady's website (we reported). Now the manual is available in PDF format, which can now be quickly displayed on the Atari through Porthos. The manual is very detailed and contains many illustrations. (tr)

Elmar Hilgart at the Atari-Park (25.10.2001 - 08:10 Uhr)

The Atari Park at the trade fair "Amiga 2001" in Cologne (see top news) is growing faster and bigger than we ourselves would have expected. New in the line-up of exhibitors is Elmar Hilgart, known from products like the mouse adapter "YAMI" or the Ethernet extension for all Ataris with ROM port. Elmar will be on the booth of Frontier Systems and will demonstrate a new development. We can be curious...

Interesting is certainly also the promise of "a4 Computersysteme". They will demonstrate the Risc PC system, which was developed by Acorn in the 90s and will certainly interest Atari and Amiga fans - after all, this system is also being actively developed. And the Atari exhibitors will certainly be pleased about visitors from the Acorn camp.

So don't miss the Atari Park in Cologne on 17 and 18 November 2001. (tr)

Update for PDF viewer Porthos in the works (25.10.2001 - 07:10 Uhr)

The PDF reader Porthos is being worked on diligently. The developer of the software, Wolfgang Domröse, told the American online service "MagiC Online" that there has already been an update to version 1.24, which contains numerous bug fixes. Within the next week, version 1.25 of Porthos will be released, which should make PDF files of version 1.1 displayable. In this program revision, performance under MiNT+N.AES is also to be improved. Exclusive preview of TarifMaster 4 (25.10.2001 - 03:10 Uhr)

TarifMaster 4 is presented as a preview in the coming issue 11-2001 of st-computer. The developer Achim Schumacher kindly provided us with an exclusive preview version for our readers to download.

TM 4 is a comfortable tool for calculating the cheapest call-by-call provider for telephoning - depending on distance, time and expected call duration. The program is completely integrated into an attractive GEM interface. As a little extra, a directory of international dialling codes is included. Please note, however, that this is a preliminary version for getting to know. Suggestions and bug reports go to Achim Schumacher.

TarifMaster was tested by us under MagiC on a Falcon 030 and a Power Macintosh G4, but it should also run under other operating systems. Have fun with the program! (tr)
